Papers, 1805-1899, of William Booth Taliaferro and family of "Dunham Massie," Gloucester County, Va.

Four volumes containing typescripts of diaries and letters of William Booth Taliaferro of "Dunham Massie," Gloucester, Va., 1844-1890; the diary of his wife Sally (Lyons) Taliaferro (1828-1899), 1859-1899; and other materials relating to members of the Taliaferro and Lyons families. Volume 1 contains Taliaferro family letters and Lyons family data. Volume 2 contains the Mexican War diary, 1847, and letters, 1847-1848, of William Booth Taliaferro, documenting his activities during the war. Also included is Taliaferro's 1871-1890 diary, which contains brief entries relating to weather, financial transactions, planting, and family and neighborhood activities. Volume 3 contains Sally Lyons Taliaferro's diary, 1859-1874; volume 4 contains her diary, 1875-1899. These diaries have brief entries about the weather, daily activities, and family and neighborhood news.

William Booth Taliaferro of Dunham Massie, Gloucester, Va., served in the Confederate Army; represented Gloucester County in the Virginia House of Delegates, 1850-1853 and 1874-1879; and served as a judge of the Gloucester County Court, 1891-1897. He married Sally Nivison Lyons (1828-1899), who was the daughter of the Hon. James Lyons (1801-1882) of Richmond, Va., and his first wife, Henningham (Watkins) Lyons (1799-1851).
